Getting Ready For Thanksgiving

Good morning and a happy Friday to you. Can you believe Thanksgiving is just five short days away? I'm so looking for to it and I'm pretty well prepared, at least I think I am. I like to plan for any celebration with all my little lists and I always write out our menu. I love to put little checks beside whatever is finished, oh, what a good feeling to see all those little checks.
The menu is planned, shopping list made, turkey ordered, linens ready and I just finished washing my gramma's china. I love her china and I only use it on special occasions.
Using her dishes bring back such wonderful memories. When I was little,Thanksgiving was always at her home with all her sisters and their families, my mom and me. After dinner, which was more like a feast it was time to do the dishes.....I loved this part. Just my gramma and I would wash and dry her china. She would place a tea towel in the bottom of the sink so as not to chip any dishes as she washed them and I would dry them ever so carefully. To this day this is how I wash her china, tea towel and all.
Here are a few more pieces of her dishes, and that is a picture of us taken in 1949. Years and years ago there were photographers downtown and they would snap shoppers pictures as they walked along the street. I still remember taking the bus to town for lunch and shopping. We would always eat at Hart's Cafeteria, shop, and then head home......what fun.

My blessings:
#13 ~ My gramma's china, and the wonderful memories it calls to mind.
#14 ~ The wealth of food that is available to us, never to have the worry of going hungry. Never am I more aware of this than at this time of thanksgiving.
Blessings to you and yours, have a wonderful weekend. Linda

Oh, one more thing. Thank you for all the suggestions from my last post, and I think your right about the dish being carnival glass. I knew I could count on you. L.

Using family dishes is always an important part of Thanksgiving for me too. You are so organized! I need to get busy. Announcing that it's only five more days has gotten my attention. LOL

Yep, that is carnival glass--very pretty piece.

I'm so glad you dropped by. That's so nice that you're celebrating another family gathering using grandma's dishes. What a treasure. I like lists too. I'm thankful that, this year, I'm not cooking. Traveling to my relatives a state away. I'll take a nice bottle of wine.
:) Stop by again.

So funny, I just finished reading your post for today and when I checked my comments you had left one on mine! We musdt have been visiting each other at the same time:>) And posted on the same thing! It is so sweet that you have your grandmothers china and that it reminds you of times you had with her. That is the best part of family heirlooms:>)

Oh, what a wonderful post...it just brought memories flooding back to me. I didn;t have a grandmother (both died before I was born but I had a nice step-grandmother. Just lived so far away, I never knew her). but I remember washing dishes with my mother and using her beautiful brown, transferware from England...we would be ever so careful and I am so glad we were. My daughter now has that marvelous set and treasures it deeply.
I also remember the photographers that would snap pics of you as you were walking by. I have several of them of my aunts. When I was a little girl, a man would bring a pony around the neighborhood and all the mothers would have their kids pics made, sitting on the little pony,. I have one of myself...I haven't thought of it in years so I have to go locate it.
Thanks for the memories!

You have been a busy little bee! I have not done one thing yet! BTW, your dish looks great full - but that would not last long in our house because those are our favorite chocolates! Have a great weekend!

Greetings! Nice to meet you!

I love your treasures and your song choices are great. I'm a tad younger than you, but my Dad raised me on these songs! Good stuff!

How neat to be able to use family dishes! I am not organized for Thanksgiving at all, but we do such a simple straightforward meal and our family brings a lot of the side dishes that I can wing it and be OK!

But I do need to clean...
