Comfort Food

Have your ever been to a Mimi's Cafe? They serve the most delicious food, something sure to please everyone. I love their soups and in the food section of yesterdays paper they shared the recipe for their corn chowder.... it is so yummy. We are still having lots of rain here and what could be better for dinner then a bowl of comfort food.
All the ingredient......I did use half and half as called for but I think you could use milk, it just wouldn't be as thick and creamy. One other small change I didn't have white pepper so I used good old traditional black.
Some chopping and then into the pot to simmer. It was so funny, I had a hard time getting this picture, my camera lens kept steaming up.
Into a bowl, and served with a warm crusty roll.........M'm, M'm Good! My husband was with Campbell Soup for 38 years so I took the liberty of using their famous line.
Here is the recipe. If you click to enlarge you will be able to read it.
Did you see these darling measuring spoons in the first picture?? Hearts! I love, love, love them. On the back of each spoon it says "and a pinch of love". How perfect is that?
Earlier in the day I received a surprise package in the mail from the most wonderful sister in law in the world. She is really like a sister and I love her very much.....we have been connected for nearly 50 years. She lives in Texas and even tho she is miles away she is just a phone call away. Oops, I got sidetracked, in the package were these precious measuring spoons and I just had to use them right away.
It is said.........Soup is liquid comfort~~author unknow.
What is your comfort food on a cold and rainy night??? If you make corn chowder ~~ enjoy! Linda

  4. Weird,
It's still raining where you are? Not in Thousand Oaks, it's been sunny all day, but cold.
I love Mimi's. We go there almost every Friday night. Thanks so much for the recipe. I love their soups.
One of my favorite salads is the blue cheese and walnut.
I am very excited about this.
    Thanks again Linda,

  8. Hi Linda,
I'm going to have to try that chowder, it sounds delicious, especially with the crusty bread on the side. Thank you for sharing.

I love the darling spoons, what a sweet gift!

My favorite comfort food is potato cheese soup (out of the Silver Palate Cookbook), I've been making it for years and always get rave reviews ~ maybe I'll use it for a post during one of these California storms.

  12. Good Morning Linda,
Oh my goodness, your Corn Chowder looks so good. MMMM, good is right. LOL. I've never had Corn Chowder before, but will have to give it a try sometime. "THANK YOU" for sharing the recipe with us. I love Clam Chowder, but have only had the canned kind. I'm sure the Homemade kind is alot better. I love your measuring spoons. I love, love, love, hearts as well. If they come up missing, well, nevermind. LOL. Just kidding there. I like my Homemade Chicken Noodles Soup as a comfort food. I usually fix it when it's cold outside or if someone is sickly. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

    Hugs,
    Karen H.

  16. Thanks for sharing the recipes. We don't have Mimi's in the Pacific Northwest. At least I don't think we do - if so, I've not seen it here. A dear friend took us there in southern California the last time we visited her. Low-fat Half and Half is available. I don't understand it but I know it's in our stores and makes a wonderful creamy soup. A nice bowl of stew - especially venison - is my comfort food. Add homemade or fresh bread or rolls and I'm in Heaven! ~Adrienne~

  17. Ok--this is so funny because I was looking through one of my oldest recipe boxes this past week, and in it I found my mom's old recipe for corn chowder and I had planned on making it soon and bought the ingredients. Now I'll have to compare recipes!! I love corn chowder , but it is not one of my husbands favorites because he prefers think meat stews, HUH--typically of some men! I love any and all kinds of soups (except I can't have flour!).

  18. Linda, I ate at Mimi's for breakfast an hour ago. No soup but breakfast was great.

I have to say that your photos of the downed squirrel tree look very much like the neighborhoods near me. Then I read a post where you mention the WX fair, and Placerville. I think we live in the same neck of California's woods, so to speak. I live near Watt Avenue and Arden Way.

  33. Hi Linda,
The soup looks warm and comforting! Soup is also my fav on a cold day, and stew and dumplings! yum. I love the little spoons, they look vintage, are they? yes I do live in the country, in a small village. There are other villages around mine, they are also small, we have shops and a butcher and green grocer, etc., but our nearest town is 30 mins away. Thank you for you comments on the play photos I got them on the blog at last! ha,ha

  39. Hey Linda, I printed that recipe right out and intend to make it tomorrow. Sounds so good. I loved your new heart measuring spoons. I got some new ones for Christmas and one of the spoons is for just a "pinch". Love it. I also noticed your green shakers in the first photo. Fabulous. Yesterday I took a long walk and looked for heart shaped stones. :)

  42. Yum, I love corn chowder. We have always put a little bacon or crispy salt pork in it here in New England ( at least in our family). We don't have Mimi's here, but I have eaten in them in California and they are yummy and very pretty as I remember.
